ABOUT

Hello there. My name is Allison Lafyatis and I’m a Boston-based designer with a particular love for the bold and unexpected. I’ve been a deeply visual person my whole life take immense joy in transforming brands and products through powerful design decisions. When I’m not designing, I’m usually playing soccer, drawing, or lounging in a spot of sun with my two cats Trouble and Triumph.

My design approach

A good design is not only visually appealing; it also accomplishes a goal. whether it be calling attention to certain information or ensuring a frustration-free user experience, designing with an intention is key. Below I highlight my approach to achieve a design that delivers impact.

1

step 1

Challenges & Goals

I start projects by boiling them down to a set of clear challenges I need to solve for and a list of end goals. From there, I will identify data points that I can measure to assess if I am creating a successful solution or if I need to try a different approach.

step 2

Research

Competitive analysis of other solutions already on the market allows me to determine expectations and opportunities. From here, interviews, personas, and surveys allow me to gain a deep understanding of the user I am designing for.

step 3

Draft & Design

Using all the information gathered, I can finally open my eagerly awaiting Figma file.  I usually start with broad user flows and brand guidelines which allows me to really focus on layout and making an eye-catching UI.

step 4

User Testing

The feedback from the product's intended audience provides a plethora of useful information on aspects of designs to which I may have developed a blind spot. Revising designs based on it is essential to make the product as successful as possible.

Repeat

The Design Process isn’t linear- there will always be more to improve as technology and user preferences continue to evolve and change.
