Hey there

Thanks for taking the time to make it all the way here. My name is Allison Lafyatis and I’m a Boston-based UX/UI designer with a particular love for the bold and unexpected. From fashion to web to interior, I have been passionate about design my whole life and consider myself beyond lucky to pursue it in my career. When I’m not designing, I’m usually playing soccer, drawing, or lounging in a spot of sun with my two cats Trouble and Triumph.

Feel free to look through some of my recent projects and learn about my approach to design below!

My Design Process

The blank canvas of a new project can be daunting and lead to confusion determining which direction to pursue. Slowing down and following my trusty design process helps guide my designs in a direction that will be effective and polished.

Projects
STEP 1
Challenges & Goals

I start projects by boiling them down to a set of clear challenges I need to solve for and a list of end goals. From there, I will identify data points that I can measure to assess if I am creating a successful solution or if I need to try a different approach.

STEP 2
Research

Competitive analysis of other solutions already on the market allows me to determine expectations and opportunities. From here, interviews, personas, and surveys allow me to gain a deep understanding of the user I am designing for.

STEP 3
Draft & Design

Using all the information gathered, I can finally open my eagerly awaiting Figma file. I usually start with broad user flows and brand guidelines which allows me to really focus on layout and making an eye-catching UI.

STEP 4
User Testing

The feedback from the product's intended audience provides a plethora of useful information on aspects of designs to which I may have developed a blind spot. Revising designs based on it is essential to make the product as successful as possible.

STEP 5
Repeat

The Design Process isn’t linear- there will always be more to improve as technology and user preferences continue to evolve and change!

UX UI PROJECT 1
Grape

Wine; It's really good. Except when it's not. I wanted to create my dream app that would make it easy for anyone to decipher their wine preferences so they always order the perfect glass.

UX UI PROJECT 2
Deviate

I'm in love with fashion, so I figured - why not turn the obsession into a website I could throw into the ol' portfolio? Certainly makes shopping feel much more productive.

UX UI PROJECT 3
Buckstars

This project centers around giving a popular coffee app a zesty update. I focused on creating intuitive user flows and easy-to-understand interfaces so that nothing stands in the way of that morning cup o' Joe.

My time at T.J.'s was incredibly valuable. The team gave me so many opportunities to flex my creative muscles from store front creations to magazine spreads.

Illustration

Sketching comes in handy in UX/UI from blocking out wireframes or as a starting point in creating digital assets like cartoon cats.

Design Challenges

Companies love giving me design challenges and not hiring me. Jokes on them because now I have a Design Challenge Section for my portfolio.

Information Design

Boiling down information to attractive, quickly-understood visuals is always a fun challenge for me. Once I won a math fair based purely on the presentation and I have never under-estimated the power of visuals since. I'm really bad at math.
